If you ask most adults, they would agree that education is an important factor in the fight against crime, poverty, illiteracy, and unemployment. One might ask, are there more serious dangers when there is the absence of education. In the bible the author Solomon known for wisdom makes a reference to the importance of teaching, training, and knowledge. In the book of proverbs a scripture that provides perspective to the importance of education is Proverbs 22:6 which states: “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.”

The ability to read, write, and think critically are very important tools for every human being to possess. Thus when not available or poorly deployed the student is less employable, can become dependent on government assistance, prone to dropping out, crime, gangs, or worse. Certainly this may not be your idea of a great life!

According to James Truslow Adams who is credited with coining the phrase , "The American Dream" describes it this way,  "That dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement. It is a difficult dream for the European upper classes to interpret adequately, and too many of us ourselves have grown weary and mistrustful of it. It is not a dream of motor cars and high wages merely, but a dream of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they are innately capable, and be recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position."
